Georgie Cleeve Guest Blogs for LoveLula | The Importance Of Supplements

As part of our Detox and Supplements Month at LoveLula, OSKIA founder Georgie Cleeve tells us how supplements have an important role to play in our daily lives.

"Beauty supplements became a big story in 2011, yet some consumers remain sceptical of their benefits – and understandably so. Brands have not communicated their benefits clearly, and in these difficult times, everyone’s reluctant to add to the cost of their skincare regime. But supplements can provide dramatic benefits by delivering invaluable nutrients to the skin, and in a very different way to creams and serums.
Proper intake of nutrients is vital to good skin health. Nutrient deficiency can cause skin conditions and contribute to the appearance of ageing, while a sustained and proper intake can lead to healthier and more radiant skin.
Supplements (and of course food) are the only methods of delivering nutrients directly to the lower levels of the dermis. Ingested nutrients are broken down in the gut and carried to the dermis via the blood capillaries, directly improving the health and efficiency of dermal skin cells. These days most people don’t get sufficient nutrients through diet alone, which is why supplementing has become so important for general wellbeing as well as more specifically for skin benefits. When taken in combination with creams and serums that deliver benefits to the upper layers of the dermis, targeted and nutrient-rich supplements can dramatically benefit skin condition and appearance.
Look for targeted supplements that do not try to be all things to all people. Give supplements time to work, usually about 6 weeks for a full skin turnover cycle. And avoid collagen supplements, as collagen itself is broken down in the gut and won’t benefit the skin. OSKIA’s Pure MSM supplement works differently by providing the body with the raw materials needed to increase collagen production. MSM is the most bio-available form of the mineral sulphur, a key mineral used in over 150 bodily functions including collagen and keratin production, which is why it’s great for skin, hair and nails. It’s also a wonderful anti-inflammatory and de-toxifier, hence its benefits to people suffering from skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea and acne.

Beauty supplements aren’t a passing fad – in fact they’ve become a vital part of so many people’s beauty regimes. Perhaps it’s time to see for yourself what a difference they can make."

Georgie, you're so right. MSM is amazing, as is omega 3 + supergreens + Vit B complex + a good multi + probiotics. I try and take all of them daily when I remember.

Beauty is inside out..and outside in.

Great to see OSKIA on LoveLula.
